SKIN NEEDLING TREATMENT

SkinPen Microneedling

Stimulate your skin’s natural ability to repair and renew

If your skin feels tired, textured, or uneven, skin needling treatment offers a clinically proven way to regenerate your skin from within. At About Face Brisbane, we use SkinPen Microneedling—a precision medical device backed by strong clinical research and TGA approval—to help rebuild collagen, reduce scarring, and visibly improve skin texture over time.

Unlike generic microneedling tools or at-home rollers, SkinPen offers sterile, controlled micro-injuries that stimulate natural healing while protecting your skin barrier. Whether you’re targeting post-acne marks, ageing, or dull skin tone, we personalise each session to your skin’s unique needs.

What is Skin Needling?

Skin needling, also called collagen induction therapy, uses tiny micro-needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This triggers your body’s natural wound-healing process by stimulating collagen and elastin, improving cell turnover, and repairing damage at a deeper level.

We exclusively use the SkinPen because of its safety, precision, and ability to target:

  • Acne scarring and enlarged pores

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles

  • Uneven texture or tone

  • Pigmentation and sun damage

  • Mild skin laxity or dullness

  • Neck and décolletage rejuvenation

It’s suitable for most skin types and is ideal for clients who want a gentle yet effective alternative to lasers or injectables.

What to expect from your treatment

Every skin needling treatment at our clinic starts with a detailed skin consultation. We’ll assess your skin’s texture, tone, and treatment history before recommending a personalised plan. Depending on your skin goals, we may also recommend complementary treatments or at-home skincare support.

A typical microneedling treatment includes:

  • Skin prep and cleanse

  • Precision-controlled needling using sterile SkinPen cartridges

  • Soothing peptide or hyaluronic serum infusion

  • Custom aftercare plan to maximise results

Expect mild redness or sensitivity for up to 48 hours, similar to light sunburn. Most clients begin to see a subtle glow within days, with deeper results like scar softening or firmer texture, building steadily over several weeks.

How many treatments will I need?

Skin needling works progressively. For best results, we often recommend:

  • 3 to 6 sessions, spaced 4–6 weeks apart

  • Follow-up maintenance every 6–12 months

  • Homecare products to support skin renewal between visits

During your consultation, we’ll give you a realistic treatment plan based on your skin condition, goals, and how your skin responds over time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Device Do You Use?

At About Face Brisbane, we use the SkinPen – the FIRST medical Skin Needling device approved by the TGA and FDA; meaning it is exclusively available at physician-run practices like us. Traditional Micro-needling devices either used oscillating motions or needles with tiny hooks on the ends, in an attempt to create a more aggressive treatment with the ideology of getting better results, faster. These traditional devices had a higher risk of causing adverse effects such as scarring or pigmentation as the punctures in the skin were larger or micro-tears, versus controlled micro-channels.

What Is The Science Behind Micro-needling?

There are three phases to the wound repair process:

Phase 1: Inflammation – Puncturing the skin stimulates your immune system to clean the wounds and to remove debris while increasing blood flow to create new tissue

Phase 2: Proliferation – The wound is repaired with new granulation cells, which are components of the extracellular matrix. New network of blood vessels are also developed.

Phase 3: Remodelling – The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels.

What Conditions Can Skin-Needling Treat?

Skin Needling treatments can reduce the appearance of:

  • Acne scars*
  • Surgical scars*
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Open pores
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Uneven skin tone*

* A consultation with our Cosmetic Physicians is required to discuss suitability.

What Is The Difference Between Micro-Needling And Laser Resurfacing?

Microneedling and laser treatments are very different and can be alternated to address a variety of concerns however, the two technologies aren’t substitutes for each other. Laser penetrates the skin further and can treat skin conditions such as rosacea, sun damage, active acne, warts, milia and more.

A consultation allows us to assess your skin thoroughly and provide a recommendation or treatment plan for your individual case.
