Treatments for Acne

pimples and inflammation Problems on your face or back

Issues with pimples and inflammation cannot be under-estimated. Many of our clients come as see us desperate for a solution as their skin condition has begun to affect their confidence and they are beginning to hide away from public situations. Additionally, they are finding that picking and squeezing pimples only makes their skin look worse, or they are having to apply lots of makeup in an attempt to cover them up, but it only makes outbreaks even worse.

What causes Acne?

Acne is a major skin problem that affects adolescents and adults making a psychological impact because of its appearance on the face.  It is also quite common on the chest, neck and back of male and female adolescents.

The causes are multifactorial and different for each person.

  • Puberty
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Genetics
  • Stress
  • Hormonal changes – Menopause
  • Diet & Lifestyle

We believe it is important to treat acne as early as possible to prevent permanent scarring. Our treatments work on a corrective protocol by reducing oil production, speeding up skin cell turnover, fighting bacterial infection and reducing the inflammation with the intention to re-educate the skin to function correctly.

What are the benefits of Laser Treatments?

The Dynamis Nd YAG laser penetrates the skin to the correct depth in the skin to heat and suppress the overactive sebaceous glands.  The laser light kills the bacteria and reduces the inflammation of the skin. The treatment will accelerate the healing process and stimulate collagen, an important step in the long-term care of acne and prevention of scarring.

When the inflammation is under control we can use the Er YAG to perform a light to medium peel.  This laser step removes skin build up and unblocks the pores.  Once the skin has finished peeling your face will look fresher with a more even skin tone and texture.

Do I need to use home care products?

Yes, using the correct home care products is one of the most important steps you need to take to manage your acne.  The active skin care will help control the condition and prevent further skin damage.  They will not fix the problem but will reduce the excess oil secretion, treat inflammation and minimise infection and most importantly maintain your skin’s health.  We believe the most effective solution for acne is combining your skin care with clinical treatments.

Do Chemical Peels help?

If you have mild acne a course of lactic acid (AHA) and salicylic acid (BHA) peels can be beneficial.  The lactic acid peels can increase the skin’s cellular turnover.  By increasing the cell turnover you are helping to prevent a buildup of dead skin cells, which can make your skin look dull and unhealthy.  The salicylic acid peel dissolves the buildup of sebum in the pores and helps dry out existing break out.

At About Face Brisbane we do a layering peel using both acids to achieve an effective result.
